Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has hit out at senior parliamentary offices, President William Ruto, and party officials following a ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) that nullified her expulsion from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

In a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, Orwoba welcomed the decision, saying the tribunal had declared her removal “illegal and unconstitutional.”

She noted that the ruling effectively quashed all subsequent decisions, including gazettes by the Senate and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), as well as the swearing-in of her replacement, Consolata Wakwabubi.

“The court has officially reinstated me,” she affirmed.

Orwoba accused the leadership of the Senate and electoral authorities of acting in bad faith despite being aware that the ruling was due.

According to her, the Speaker of the Senate and the Clerk facilitated a special sitting that swore in Wakwabubi before the judgment was delivered.

“It is important to note that IEBC, Senate, the Speaker of the Senate and the Clerk of the Senate were all aware that the ruling of this case was scheduled for today. They instead chose to call a special sitting to illegally swear in Consolata before the reading of the ruling,” she said.

The legislator questioned the integrity of parliamentary leadership, posing: “So who is corrupt in Parliament? The MPs or the executives’ cronies?” Her remarks were also viewed as a veiled attack on President Ruto, whom she accused of presiding over a system that enables such impunity.

Orwoba further alleged that she had received warnings and threats aimed at silencing her. She claimed that attempts had been made to mute coverage of her case, pointing to efforts to intimidate both her and her family.

“I have received several communications warning me to shut up and let it go. That even media has been silenced on this matter. This communication is targeted to threaten me and my family,” she remarked.

She insisted that she would continue speaking out despite pressure. “As I said and I reiterate, even silence has an end,” she concluded.

The ruling marks a dramatic twist in UDA’s internal disputes and reopens questions about the handling of disciplinary cases in Parliament.
