KNEC opens online KCSE results portal as official release draws near

Thousands of 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates can breathe a sigh of relief after the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) activated its online results-checking portal ahead of the official release of the examinations.

A spot check by our editorial team confirmed that the KCSE results portal is already live, a move that signals preparations for the imminent release of the national examination results.

However, KNEC has cautioned candidates, parents, and teachers that the system will only allow access to provisional results once the council formally announces the release.

A notice displayed on the portal reads in part: “2025 KCSE Provisional Results: Checking of KCSE Examination Provisional Results will be available after official release.”

The early activation of the portal is a standard procedure by KNEC aimed at testing system readiness and ensuring it can withstand heavy traffic once results are made public.

In previous years, results portals have experienced delays and technical hitches due to overwhelming demand from candidates and parents accessing results simultaneously. This proactive step is expected to minimise such disruptions.

Once the results are officially released, candidates will be required to enter their index numbers and examination year to access their provisional results online.

The development comes barely days after Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba dismissed viral claims circulating on social media alleging that the KCSE results had already been released, with some posts falsely naming top-performing schools. Ogamba termed the reports fake and misleading, urging the public to ignore them.

Nonetheless, the CS has assured candidates that the wait will not be long. Speaking recently in North Mugirango, Ogamba confirmed that the KCSE results would be released within two weeks, maintaining the long-standing tradition of January announcements.

The 2025 KCSE examinations concluded on November 21 after five weeks of continuous testing that began on October 21, marking the final step before candidates transition to higher education and training pathways.
