The immediate former chair of the Law Society of Kenya, Eric Theuri, has made serious claims regarding the recent protests by young people that happened on Thursday, 8th June.

In a bold statement shared through his official X account, Theuri alleged that the chaos and looting seen during the protest were not genuine but instead staged. He suggested that what looked like random violence was actually a planned attempt to cover up the killing of social media influencer Albert Ojwang’.

These protests had drawn in many young Kenyans who were demanding the resignation of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Langat. The protesters accused him of being responsible for Ojwang’s death.

The situation quickly turned chaotic, with clashes breaking out between the police and demonstrators.

Several shops were looted, and even vehicles were set on fire. But according to Eric Theuri, these acts of violence were not carried out by genuine protestors but were possibly staged to paint the protests as criminal and discredit the demands being made by the youth.

Theuri claimed that the destruction seen on that day did not appear natural. Instead, he said it looked like something planned.

“I have seen clips of alleged protestors destroying property in what appears to be stage-managed looting,” he wrote.

He believes this strange behavior is linked to efforts by powerful people to hide the truth about Ojwang’s murder.

For Theuri, the timing of the looting and the focus on property damage instead of justice for Ojwang’ tells a worrying story. He is concerned that the real issue someone being killed in unclear circumstances is being ignored.

He went further to say that this entire episode shows how the rule of law in Kenya is breaking down. According to him, the institutions that should protect justice are instead being used to protect those with power.

“The rule of law has gone to the dogs. We are sliding deep into banana Republic territory,” he warned. These are strong words that reflect how worried he is about the direction the country is heading.

Many Kenyans have been left confused by the events surrounding Ojwang’s death and the government’s response. Now, with Theuri’s claims, more questions are being raised.

Was the looting really planned? Are powerful figures trying to shift attention away from the killing of a young Kenyan? And if so, what does this mean for ordinary citizens who hope for justice and fairness?

These are the concerns being raised as more people start to question what really happened on the day of the protests and why Ojwang’s death has not been addressed properly.
