At least six people have been shot dead, while eight others sustained serious injuries following an attack by armed raiders in Baragoi, Samburu North, Samburu County.

Authorities reported that the assailants stormed Kilepoi village on Tuesday, March 11, and opened fire indiscriminately before making away with approximately 700 livestock.

According to Deputy County Commissioner Samwel Mwangi, a multi-agency security team has managed to recover about 150 stolen animals. He stated that the operation, involving the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, Rapid Deployment Unit, and National Police Reservists, is ongoing to track down the attackers.

The injured victims were taken to Baragoi Sub-County Hospital and Samburu County Referral Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were moved to the Samburu County Referral Hospital in Maralal.

Dr. Josephat Lenguris, the county head of health services, assured that those receiving treatment were in stable condition.

The attack rekindles memories of the November 2012 tragedy when more than 40 police officers and reservists were killed in Suguta Valley near Baragoi while pursuing stolen cattle.
