DCI investigators probe possible poisoning before Cyrus Jirongo fatal crash

Fresh details are emerging around the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament and former Regional Development minister Cyrus Jirongo, with investigators now questioning the initial explanation that followed the tragic road crash.

What was first treated as a normal traffic accident is now under deeper scrutiny after forensic experts uncovered inconsistencies that suggest a more complex sequence of events.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have revealed that the crash may not have happened in the way it was first described to the public.

According to their ongoing probe, there are signs that Jirongo may have been poisoned before the accident, a factor that could have caused him to lose consciousness while driving.

This possibility has introduced a new and serious angle to the investigation, shifting focus from road conditions alone to the driver’s physical state before the crash.

Forensic reconstruction carried out by experts indicates that the incident involved more than one impact. Investigators say Jirongo’s vehicle was initially struck from behind on the rear left side by a faster and heavier vehicle while it was slowing down.

This first hit caused visible damage to the rear section of the car and appears to have destabilised it. The force of that impact then pushed the vehicle into a second, much more severe frontal collision.

The second crash, according to investigators, is what likely caused the fatal injuries. The front of the vehicle suffered extensive damage, with clear intrusion into the cabin area.

This type of damage is usually associated with severe internal injuries, supporting the view that the frontal impact was deadly. Experts have pointed out that the overall damage pattern does not match what would be expected from a single head-on collision, further strengthening the theory that there were two separate impacts.

Another issue that has raised concern among investigators is the lack of airbag deployment during the frontal crash. In a collision of that magnitude, airbags would normally deploy.

Their failure to do so has led detectives to question the condition of the vehicle’s safety systems as well as the driver’s state at the time of the impact. These questions remain unanswered as technical examinations continue.

Authorities have been careful to note that these findings are still part of an active investigation. They have stressed that the poisoning theory and the crash reconstruction are investigative leads, not final conclusions. Comprehensive forensic analysis is ongoing, and more tests are expected to clarify what truly happened in Jirongo’s final moments.

The new revelations have intensified public attention and concern. Family members and political allies have called for full transparency, insisting that all facts be made public once investigations are complete. Many believe that only a thorough and open process will address the questions surrounding the former legislator’s death.

Police have assured the public that no possibility will be ignored. They say all angles, including mechanical, medical, and criminal aspects, will be carefully examined before a final determination is made on the cause of Cyrus Jirongo’s death.
