Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has defended his tenure as the Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary, saying he made significant efforts to enhance the country’s security during his time in office.
Speaking in Ng’arachi, Laikipia County, on Tuesday, Kindiki stated that he could account for every day he served in the ministry, emphasizing that his focus was on securing the nation.
“I did my best as the Interior Cabinet Secretary, and I can account for each of the 689 days I was in office. I know what I did daily to make Kenya safer, from Laikipia to Lamu, Garissa, Mandera, and other regions,” he stated.
The Deputy President noted that when President William Ruto assumed office in 2022, Laikipia was grappling with high levels of insecurity. However, he explained that the government swiftly took action to restore stability in the region.
According to Kindiki, these interventions have made it possible for Ruto to visit Laikipia and reopen schools that had previously been affected by banditry.
“When the President took over, Laikipia was one of the most insecure counties, but the government responded by strengthening security, deploying armored personnel carriers and mine-resistant vehicles. As a result, the situation has improved, and today, we are witnessing the reopening of schools that had been forced to close due to insecurity,” he added.
The Deputy President expressed his satisfaction at returning to a more stable Laikipia and pledged to make more visits to the county to oversee development projects.
“I will be back here many times for development projects. I am pleased to return to a peaceful Laikipia and a stable North Rift,” he stated.
President Ruto and his deputy have embarked on a weeklong tour of the Mt Kenya region, starting with Laikipia County. While there, the Head of State officially reopened Ng’arachi Primary School, along with eight other schools in Laikipia West that had been vandalized by criminals.
Additionally, Ruto launched the Last Mile Connectivity Programme in the county, a project valued at KSh 720 million. The initiative aims to provide electricity to 4,043 households, as well as schools and healthcare facilities in the region.
