A latest public opinion poll by Mwelekeo Insights has shown former NCIC commissioner Wambui Nyutu leading the 2027 Maragua Constituency parliamentary race with 54.9%, against UDA candidate Mary Wamaua’s 31.5%.
Nyutu, who is running on the Democratic Congress Party (DCP) ticket, has opened a lead of more than 23 percentage points over Wamaua, according to the poll by Mwelekeo Insights, a reputable research firm that specialises in measuring public sentiment on political, governance, economic and social issues.
The findings provide an early indication of the shape of the Maragua parliamentary contest ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyutu leads race
Nyutu secured 54.9% of the support measured in the poll, placing her comfortably ahead of Wamaua, who polled 31.5%.
Independent candidate Jimmy Mbaku came third with 11.5%, leaving the two leading candidates with a significant share of the support captured by the poll.
The remaining candidates recorded less than one percentage point each.
Cyrus Ngugi, also associated with DCP, posted 0.9%, followed by Laban Choma at 0.7%.
Early 2027 picture
Jubilee candidate William Kamau Ngoru recorded 0.5% in the poll, which had no rejected ballots.
The results offer an early snapshot of voter preferences in Maragua, with Nyutu holding a sizeable advantage over her closest challenger.
However, opinion polls conducted before an election are a measure of sentiment at a particular point in time and can change as campaigns gather pace, candidates consolidate support and political alliances evolve.
