Political Ringside has again placed itself at the centre of Kenya’s political conversation after hosting youth leader and Nairobi senatorial hopeful Ken Babu in a candid interview with Fridah Mong’are.
Known as a home of honest, truthful and factual political conversations, the platform gave viewers a detailed look at Ken Babu’s plans for Nairobi, his stand on national politics and why he believes the city is ready for fresh leadership.
Ken Babu said his decision to run for Senate comes from years of seeing young people struggle with joblessness, insecurity and lack of opportunities.
He said the youth must stop waiting to be called future leaders and begin taking space in leadership now.
Why he wants Senate
In the interview, Ken Babu made it clear that his bid is not built on attacking current Senator Edwin Sifuna.
Instead, he said Sifuna has done well in oversight and has shown the kind of leadership that can open doors for new faces to step in and continue the work.
Ken Babu described the Senate as one of the most important offices in the country because of its role in protecting counties and keeping leaders accountable.
On Nairobi’s biggest problems, he pointed to unemployment and insecurity, saying the two are closely linked.
He said when young people lack jobs and hope, they become easy targets for crime, exploitation and political misuse.
According to him, Nairobi needs policies that attract investors, grow industries and create real opportunities for residents.
Message to youth
Ken Babu also said he understands the Senate office requires experience and technical understanding, adding that he is ready to learn from seasoned leaders while bringing fresh ideas of his own.
He insisted that while party politics matters, the real authority belongs to the people who vote.
The interview also touched on opposition politics and the cost-of-living debate, where he said many Kenyans are speaking out because life has become harder for ordinary families.
He supported the June 25 protests, saying they reflected the frustrations of a generation demanding accountability, dignity and better governance.
As the conversation came to a close, Ken Babu returned to his main message of restoring the dignity of Nairobi County through better housing, healthcare, education and open leadership.
The interview is another reminder of why Political Ringside continues to win attention as a trusted space for real political talk, where leaders are challenged, ideas are tested and viewers hear issues as they are.
