The National Police Service (NPS) has responded to growing public concern over allegations of enforced disappearances and torture circulating on social media and in mainstream media.
In a statement released on Sunday, June 28, Service said it takes all such allegations seriously and urged members of the public with credible information to report to the nearest police station for action.
The police acknowledged receipt of a report concerning a missing person, identified as Davis Lichuma, which was filed at Central Police Station in Nairobi.
NPS assured the public that all reported cases will be investigated thoroughly, professionally, and impartially in line with the Constitution and the law.
It further emphasized its commitment to accountability, transparency, and respect for human rights in all policing operations across the country.
The Service added that officers remain guided by strict legal procedures and constitutional principles while carrying out their duties.
Authorities have in recent weeks faced pressure from human rights groups and online users demanding answers over reported disappearances.
The police have reiterated that any violation of the law by officers will be dealt with according to established disciplinary and legal mechanisms.
They encouraged Kenyans to cooperate with investigations and avoid spreading unverified claims that may fuel public anxiety.
The statement comes as debate continues over the handling of missing persons cases in the country.
The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to safeguarding rights, strengthening accountability systems, and working closely with oversight bodies to ensure justice is served fairly and transparently across all regions of Kenya.
We also urge continued public cooperation and trust as investigations proceed under established legal frameworks without interference or misinformation spreading online across the country.
