Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has taken the lead in a Trans Nzoia County 2027 governor survey, securing 44.1 per cent of the votes cast, according to results published by Mwelekeo Insights.
Former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa follows with 35.9 per cent, while incumbent Governor George Natembeya sits third with 15.1 per cent, placing a wide numerical gap between him and the two leading contenders.
The results shared from the survey’s final-results page show that 3,017 participants took part, with all 3,017 ballots recorded as valid and none rejected. Mwelekeo describes the exercise on its website as part of its elections-style voting polls used to track community sentiment.
Nakhumicha takes lead
Nakhumicha received 1,331 votes, giving her 44.1 per cent, while Wamalwa collected 1,083 votes, equivalent to 35.9 per cent.
That leaves 248 votes and 8.2 percentage points separating the two leading contenders.
Natembeya received 455 votes, translating to 15.1 per cent. He trails Nakhumicha by 876 votes and 29 percentage points in the survey.
Maurice Kakai Bisau follows with 58 votes, or 1.9 per cent, while Trans Nzoia County Assembly Speaker Andrew Wanyonyi receives 52 votes, equivalent to 1.7 per cent.
Philemon Samoei closes the six-person ranking with 38 votes, representing 1.3 per cent.
The numbers put Nakhumicha and Wamalwa together at 80 per cent of votes cast in the platform survey.
Race gathers pace
The poll comes as political activity around the Trans Nzoia governorship intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nakhumicha has already received backing from senior Ford Kenya leaders for the governorship, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
Natembeya, who was elected governor in 2022, has meanwhile declared that he will defend his seat. Recent reporting also shows that more politicians have entered the contest, including Wanyonyi, widening the field ahead of party nominations.
The Mwelekeo figures should, however, be read as results among people who participated in the platform’s voting survey rather than as a forecast of the 2027 election. Mwelekeo’s polls page allows users to directly cast votes in active elections-style surveys.
