New Emurua Dikirr MP David Keter officially joins National Assembly

A new chapter has begun for the people of Emurua Dikirr after David Kipsang Keter officially joined the National Assembly as their elected representative. Keter took the oath of office on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, during a parliamentary sitting held after Members of Parliament returned from a short recess.

The swearing-in ceremony marked an important moment for the constituency, which had remained without representation following the death of former MP Johanna Ngeno earlier this year. Ngeno lost his life in a tragic plane crash in February 2026, creating a vacancy that led to the by-election held on May 14.

Before taking the oath, Keter was formally introduced to the House in line with parliamentary procedure. Standing before the Speaker and fellow lawmakers, he pledged to protect the Constitution and faithfully serve the people of Kenya in his role as Member of Parliament. After taking the oath, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula congratulated him and guided him through the signing of the official documents required for new legislators.

Once the formal process was completed, Keter was officially ushered into the chamber as a full member of the National Assembly.

The Speaker also noted the need for newly elected MPs who are yet to receive committee assignments to be placed quickly so they can actively participate in parliamentary business.

Keter won the Emurua Dikirr seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket after securing 18,266 votes in the by-election. The results were announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). His closest competitor, Vincent Kibet Rotich of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), received 10,760 votes, while other candidates finished with lower numbers.

His arrival in Parliament comes at a critical time when lawmakers are debating important national matters, including the Finance Bill 2026, which has already attracted public attention across the country. Residents of Emurua Dikirr will now have direct representation in those discussions after several months without an MP.

Keter is expected to begin his parliamentary duties immediately as he settles into his new role representing the constituency in the National Assembly.
