Philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro has appealed to Kenyans to support businessman Powel Ochieng Oyugi after his business collapsed following what Nyoro describes as a prolonged financial dispute involving KCB Bank Kenya.
Writing on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Nyoro said some Kenyans had asked whether they could help Powel recover fabric from India and restart his business.
“That’s indeed a very good kind thought,” Nyoro said, before explaining the extent of the businessman’s losses.
Nyoro said Powel’s relationship with KCB was not limited to banking, as the businessman also operated his stitching workshop from premises owned by the bank.
KSh1.2 million in business assets taken
According to Nyoro, Powel occupied two units at a quarterly rent of KSh330,000 but was billed KSh465,000 for the next quarter after his India transaction collapsed and he could no longer maintain his rent payments.

Nyoro said auctioneers were subsequently brought in and took Powel’s business equipment.
The assets included stitching machines valued at KSh950,000, branding machines worth KSh200,000 and office tables valued at KSh15,000, bringing the total value to about KSh1.2 million.
Nyoro further claimed that the auctioneer later valued the same assets at KSh200,000.
“This looks like someone out to destroy him in total,” Nyoro wrote.
The claims are based on Nyoro’s account and have not been independently established. KCB had not provided a response in the material reviewed for this story. Recent reports have also highlighted Powel’s financial difficulties and Nyoro’s appeal for public support.
