A police officer has been arrested after detectives recovered an estimated 20 kilograms of suspected cannabis during a raid in Dagoretti Sub-County, Nairobi County, following an intelligence-driven operation.
The National Police Service (NPS) said the operation was carried out on Wednesday, July 23, 2026, by officers attached to Muthangari Police Station after receiving credible information from members of the public about suspected illegal activities linked to the officer.
During the search of the suspect’s residence, officers recovered two large bags containing six bales of suspected cannabis sativa.
The narcotics, which had been wrapped in yellow tape, are estimated to weigh approximately 20 kilograms.
The drugs were immediately seized and secured as exhibits to support the ongoing investigation.
The officer was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody as detectives finalize investigations before presenting the case in court. Authorities are expected to subject the recovered substances to forensic analysis as part of the evidence-gathering process.
In a statement, the National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to fighting crime without discrimination, stressing that police officers are equally accountable under the law.
The service said it would not tolerate criminal conduct within its ranks and promised to take firm action against any officer found engaging in illegal activities.
The NPS also commended members of the public for sharing information that led to the successful operation, noting that community cooperation remains essential in tackling crime and drug trafficking.
Investigators are now working to establish the origin of the suspected narcotics, identify any possible accomplices, and determine whether the officer was part of a larger criminal network.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations and legal procedures have been completed.
