The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued a six-point clarification following the circulation of a video clip on social media concerning a voter registration exercise at Kenyatta University.
The Commission said the video had prompted questions about the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and voter transfer processes ahead of the 2027 General Election.
IEBC clarified that every eligible Kenyan citizen has a constitutional right to apply for registration and vote at any polling station of their choice.
However, the commission said voter transfer services are only offered at IEBC constituency offices across the country and not at other locations.

The commission said it is currently conducting Continuous Voter Registration at all 290 IEBC constituency offices, Huduma Centres and the Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi.
IEBC added that it can deploy voter registration kits to strategic locations when necessary to reach eligible Kenyans, saying this was what happened at Kenyatta University.
What IEBC said
The commission further clarified that acknowledgement slips are issued only to newly registered voters.
According to IEBC, people seeking to transfer their voting station do not receive acknowledgement slips because their details are already contained in the voters’ register.
The electoral commission also said its role is to facilitate the registration of eligible Kenyans and that it does not direct, compel or influence voters to select a particular polling station.
IEBC said it had taken the allegations contained in the circulating video seriously and was working with relevant government agencies to take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
The commission said action could include apprehending individuals where culpability is established.
IEBC also urged members of the public not to interfere with its processes as it carries out its constitutional mandate.
It further cautioned Kenyans against relying on misinformation and urged the public to obtain information on voter registration and transfer processes only from official IEBC channels.
