Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has jokingly claimed that the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has devised a way to detect people allegedly sent to infiltrate its political movement.
Speaking in the United States, Gachagua said he has repeatedly warned his colleagues to remain alert for individuals he claimed could be sent by President William Ruto and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to infiltrate the movement.
“I keep on asking my colleagues publicly and privately to be on the lookout for people sent by Ruto and the NIS to infiltrate our movement,” Gachagua said.
He then used humour to describe what he claimed was an elaborate system the party had developed to identify such individuals.
Gachagua names ‘Kasongometer’
According to Gachagua, members of DCP had perfected what he described as the art of dealing with infiltration and political “moles”.
“There are some fellows who developed for us an equipment called Kasongometer to smell Ruto’s moles 5 km away,” he said.
Gachagua added that the device supposedly reacts whenever it detects someone associated with “Kasongo”, a reference he used in describing people allegedly linked to Ruto.
“[When] ikisikia ni mtu ya Kasongo, it starts beeping red,” he said.
The remarks drew attention because of the unusual description of the alleged device, with Gachagua presenting the “Kasongometer” as a humorous way of illustrating the level of vigilance he wants maintained within the movement.
His comments also revive the political theme of infiltration that has featured in opposition politics, with leaders often warning their supporters about alleged attempts to penetrate or disrupt political formations.

Gachagua, however, did not provide details of any specific individual he accused of being an agent of Ruto or the NIS in the remarks.
The “Kasongometer” reference appeared to be delivered as a joke, while his broader message urged DCP supporters to remain cautious about individuals joining or engaging with the movement.
The claims about alleged infiltration remain accusations by Gachagua and were not independently established in the remarks provided.
