Ride-hailing company Bolt Kenya has dismissed as fake a document circulating online claiming that it plans to cease operations in Kenya on June 8, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, the company said the document, which has been shared on social media and messaging platforms, did not originate from Bolt Kenya and should be disregarded.
“It has come to our attention that a fraudulent document purporting to be an official communication from Bolt Kenya is currently circulating on social media and messaging platforms. The document falsely claims that Bolt will cease operations in the Kenyan market effective 8th June 2026,” Bolt Kenya said in a statement.
The company categorically denied the claims, reassuring its driver-partners, customers and other stakeholders that its operations in Kenya remain unaffected.
“We wish to categorically state that this document is FAKE and did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any of its authorised representatives. Bolt Kenya remains fully operational and committed to serving our driver-partners, and customers across the country,” the company said.
Bolt further revealed that it has launched investigations into the source of the document and warned that action would be taken against those responsible for creating and spreading the misinformation.
“We are currently investigating the source of the fabricated document and will take appropriate action against the creation and dissemination of misleading information that misrepresents the company,” the statement added.
The company also sought to reassure users that it continues to operate normally in the country and remains focused on providing transport and delivery services while supporting economic opportunities for thousands of Kenyans.
“We would like to reassure our community that Bolt continues to operate normally in Kenya and remains focused on delivering safe, reliable, and innovative services while creating economic opportunities across the country,” Bolt Kenya said.
The ride-hailing firm urged members of the public not to share the false information and instead rely on official company communication channels for accurate updates.
“We urge all driver-partners, customers, and members of the public to disregard the circulating document in its entirety, refrain from sharing or amplifying this misinformation, and rely solely on official communications from Bolt Kenya through our verified channels, including our official website, verified social media accounts, and the Bolt app,” the company stated.
Bolt said stakeholders seeking clarification should follow its verified communication channels or contact the company’s communications team directly for official information.
The statement was signed by Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager for East Africa at Bolt.
