Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has renewed his criticism of the violence witnessed during the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay, expressing concern over what he described as the growing use of political goonism to disrupt political activities.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Ahmednasir questioned the role of government officials in Nairobi, accusing some of them of either facilitating or failing to prevent violence against political opponents.
He argued that such incidents raise serious concerns about the country’s political environment as Kenya approaches the 2027 General Election.
Ahmednasir described political violence as a longstanding problem in Kenya, while making controversial claims linking the practice to political networks in Luo Nyanza.
He alleged that some political elites with influence at the national level have historically benefited from or tolerated violent political mobilisation in their home regions.
According to the lawyer, political goonism can thrive when security agencies are allegedly instructed to stand down or fail to act decisively against those disrupting political gatherings.
He argued that the alleged use of private violence for political purposes threatens democratic participation and undermines the rule of law.
Ahmednasir further criticised the government for what he termed an ill-advised approach to political violence in Luo Nyanza, warning that tolerating such activities could have serious consequences ahead of the 2027 elections.
He called for individuals allegedly associated with political violence to be denied influential positions within the country’s security architecture, insisting that security institutions should remain impartial and protect all political actors regardless of their affiliations.
