Willy Paul raises alarm over identity theft scheme targeting Nairobi residents

Concern over online deception has pushed Kenyan artist Willy Paul to speak publicly after discovering that someone has been using his identity to mislead people. The musician says the situation has gone beyond simple online lies and has started to harm his name, his work, and innocent members of the public. His warning comes as cases of impersonation continue to rise on social media, where public figures are often targeted because of their popularity.

Willy Paul explained that the individual involved has been pretending to be closely related to him, specifically claiming to be his brother.

According to the singer, this false claim has been used to gain trust, ask for favours, and manipulate people who believe they are dealing with someone from his family. The artist decided to address the matter openly after realizing that previous efforts to stop the impersonator had failed.

“I am issuing this statement to address a serious matter concerning an individual who has been impersonating me.

This person has been deceitfully claiming to be my brother and using my name to gain favours and manipulate others. “Willy Paul wrote.

He said that this was not the first time he had encountered the problem. In the past, he had warned the individual and even exposed them on his social media pages. Despite these actions, the impersonator allegedly continued with the same behavior, spreading false stories and creating confusion among people who associate Willy Paul’s name with trust and success.

“Despite previous warnings and having exposed this individual on my social media, they have continued to spread false information and damage my reputation,” he stated.

The musician revealed that the situation had become more serious after the impersonator involved other people in different parts of Nairobi. He explained that some women were drawn into the deception and were led to believe they were dealing with someone genuinely connected to him. This, he said, was worrying because it showed how far the impersonator was willing to go.

“It has come to my attention that this individual has also involved unsuspecting individuals, including a woman in Nairobi South B, to whom he falsely claims to be related to me, and another woman in Nairobi Ngara, who is a doctor and who is also being misled in the same way,” Willy Paul wrote.

Because of the growing impact of the deception, Willy Paul confirmed that he has taken the matter to the authorities. He said the case is no longer just a personal issue but a legal one, as more people could be affected if the impersonation continues unchecked.

“This matter is now under police investigation, and appropriate legal action is being taken,” he said.

The singer also appealed directly to the public, especially anyone who may have been contacted or misled by the impersonator. He stressed that speaking out is important not only to clear his own name but also to prevent further harm.

“I urge anyone who has been affected or who has any concerns to reach out to me directly, ” he concluded.
