Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has demanded the immediate arrest of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, accusing him of masterminding violence against peaceful protesters in the capital.
The ODM-allied legislator said Governor Sakaja should be held accountable for what he termed a “deliberate and shameful” attack on demonstrators who took to the streets last week following the murder of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang.
Speaking during an interview on Spice FM on Tuesday, Owino claimed that the Governor hired goons to unleash violence on protesters. “The Governor should be arrested. In a capital city – it was a shame, and we should condemn it.”
Owino alleged that Sakaja issued threatening remarks during a political event in Kamagut, Uasin Gishu, just days before the protests. According to the MP, Sakaja warned protesters that they would be “dealt with” if they returned to Nairobi’s streets.

“He said clearly – and I quote – ‘the other day you caught us unawares, this time we’re prepared. If you come to town, we will deal with you,’” Owino claimed.
The Embakasi East MP also accused Sakaja of abandoning his “siasa safi” mantra, saying the Governor’s recent conduct contradicts the values of ethical leadership. “This is a Governor who turns everything into garbage—he even took garbage to Stima Plaza. That tells you the kind of leadership we’re dealing with,” Owino said.
He further questioned Sakaja’s academic credentials, repeating allegations that the Governor rose through political ranks with a “fake degree.” “That is why everything he touches ends in chaos,” Owino added.
Governor Sakaja has denied all allegations, dismissing them as politically motivated. He insisted he had no involvement in the violence and described the accusations as a smear campaign to tarnish his name.
The debate comes as Nairobi remains tense ahead of further planned protests.
