TikTok has taken down 334,000 videos posted by Kenyan users for violating its Community Guidelines, according to a report released on Thursday, February 6.
The removals occurred between July and September 2024, with the platform citing various policy breaches as the reason for the takedowns.
“Over 334,000 videos were removed in Kenya for violating TikTok’s Community Guidelines, with 88.9% taken down before they could be viewed by others, and 93% removed within 24 hours of posting,” the report stated.
According to TikTok, most violations by Kenyan users fell under four key policy areas, including authenticity and integrity.
For content related to Integrity and Authenticity, TikTok removed 99.7% of violating videos before they were reported, with 94% taken down within 24 hours. The platform emphasized that these measures help curb misinformation and fraud, fostering a trustworthy digital space.
Regarding Mental and Behavioural Health, 99.9% of harmful content was removed before users could report it, with 96.4% taken down within 24 hours. TikTok reiterated its commitment to protecting users, particularly younger audiences, from content that could impact mental well-being.
Additionally, the platform flagged violations concerning youth safety, as well as the posting of inappropriate or mature-themed content.
TikTok assured users that its moderation efforts would continue to uphold community standards and maintain a safe and reliable environment for all.
