A Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Ramoya village, Samba Sub-location, Suba South Constituency, Homa Bay County, is in mourning after a church elder succumbed to stab wounds.

The deceased, Francis Opiyo, was stabbed in front of the congregation at Ebenezer SDA Church. According to witnesses, he had just finished delivering church reports when the suspect, also a church elder, walked to the altar, pulled out a knife hidden between the pages of a Bible, and stabbed him in the chest.

Opiyo collapsed on the spot and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed while receiving treatment.

The suspect accused Opiyo of having an affair with his wife, who is also a member of the church. After the attack, he fled but later surrendered to the Assistant Chief. He is currently in custody at Magunga Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.

If found guilty of murder, he could face a death sentence.
