Samson Cherargei faults Stephen Sang over KSh 448.7 million spending

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has launched a scathing attack on Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, accusing him of gross mismanagement of county resources and prioritizing personal expenses over essential services.

Cherargei claimed that Governor Sang had allocated a staggering KSh 448.7 million toward office operations and personal entertainment, a move he described as an outright “insult to the people of Nandi.”

The senator argued that such spending is unjustifiable, especially given the pressing challenges facing residents across the county.

According to Cherargei, critical sectors such as healthcare and infrastructure are suffering.

He pointed to shortages of drugs in hospitals, impassable feeder roads, and what he termed as chaotic human resource management within the county administration.

Additionally, he highlighted the lack of bursaries and overall poor development, saying these issues reflect misplaced priorities in leadership.

“This is unacceptable. Residents are struggling, yet millions are being directed toward non-essential expenditures,” Cherargei stated, emphasizing the need for responsible governance and accountability in the use of public funds.

The senator further linked the alleged spending to a broader concern about accountability among county leaders.

He suggested that some governors, including Sang, are resistant to oversight by the Senate, which is constitutionally mandated to monitor how devolved resources are utilized.

Cherargei’s remarks have sparked debate among residents and political observers, with many calling for transparency and a detailed breakdown of the county’s expenditure.

Others have urged the Senate to intensify its oversight role to ensure that public funds are used effectively and benefit citizens.

Attention now turns to Governor Stephen Sang to respond to the allegations.

The unfolding dispute could become a major test of accountability and leadership in Nandi County’s governance.
