The President’s birthday this year was marked by words rather than public events, as a message from his wife brought attention to the personal side of a man who holds the country’s highest office.
First Lady Rachel Ruto used the moment to reflect on faith, family, and the long journey she and President William Ruto have shared, offering a message that blended personal devotion with public responsibility.
Sharing her thoughts on Sunday, Rachel spoke about their years together and the path they have walked as a couple.
Her message opened on a warm and personal note with the words, “My dear Bill, happy birthday!” From there, she turned to gratitude, thanking God for her husband’s life and the experiences that have shaped him over the years.
“Today, I thank God for the gift of your life, for the journey we have walked together, for your courage in moments of uncertainty, and for the steady love and discipline with which you carry the weight of leadership,” she said.
The message reflected a deep awareness of the pressures that come with leadership and the personal strength she believes her husband brings to his role.
Rachel also highlighted what she described as the President’s commitment to serving the country, noting that much of what he does happens away from public view.
“I have seen your heart for Kenya, your tireless commitment to serve, and the quiet sacrifices that often go unseen,” she noted.
Her words suggested that behind the public image of the Head of State is a private struggle and effort that only those close to him fully understand.
The First Lady went on to offer prayers for the year ahead, focusing on health, peace, and strength.
“As you mark another year, my prayer is that God grants you good health, inner peace, and renewed strength. May He surround you with wisdom, protect your steps, and reward your labour with hope for our nation and joy in our family,” she stated. The prayer connected the President’s personal well-being to the future of both the nation and their family.
She concluded her message by expressing love and appreciation, describing her husband in multiple roles beyond politics.

“With all my love and gratitude, I celebrate you, not only as a leader, a father and a husband, but as the man God has entrusted to us,” she said. The closing words underlined the balance between public duty and private life that defines their shared journey.
President Ruto was born on December 21, 1966, in Sambut village, Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County, to Daniel Cheruiyot and Sarah Cheruiyot. His birthday also holds personal significance for the couple, as he and Rachel were married on December 21, 1991.
Together, they have been blessed with seven children: Nick, June, Charlene, Stephanie, Cullie, George and Nadia.
The birthday message from the First Lady was followed by wishes from several leaders.
Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura sent a faith-based message, noting the importance of the President’s leadership at a time when the country faces economic and social challenges.
“May our dear Lord continue to guide and protect you as you serve and lead this great country Kenya,” he said.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula also shared his message, saying the President’s vision continues to inspire citizens.
“Happy Birthday President (Dr.) William Ruto. May this year bring you strength, wisdom, and joy as you continue to shape Kenya’s future,” he said, adding,
“Here’s to another year of greater leadership, service, and progress for Kenya. Wishing you a remarkable day my brother Mr President”.
