Police release photos of brothers killed following Moi Avenue cash heist

Photos of two brothers who were shot dead by police after a robbery along Moi Avenue have been released, offering more details about an incident that occurred in the city last week. The case attracted attention because it happened in a busy area during the day and involved a large amount of money.

Police say the two men were part of a group of five who targeted a man shortly after he withdrew Sh300,000 from a bank along Moi Avenue.

Investigators believe the gang had been watching the area and noticed the victim leaving the bank with the cash. The robbery happened in broad daylight, at a time when many people were walking along the street and businesses were open.

Witnesses reported that the gang approached the man suddenly and took the money before he could react. The incident caused confusion among people nearby, with some unsure at first what was happening.

Business owners and pedestrians later said the robbers moved quickly and did not seem concerned about the crowd around them. After taking the cash, the suspects tried to escape on foot through nearby streets.

The victim was not injured during the robbery but was clearly shaken. He raised an alarm immediately after the attackers fled.

Police officers who were on patrol in plain clothes were alerted within a short time. They moved in the direction given and managed to spot the suspects as they attempted to get away from the area.

A chase followed as officers tried to stop the suspects. During the pursuit, a confrontation occurred that led to a shootout.

Two of the suspects, who were brothers, were shot during the incident. Police said they sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene before medical assistance could be provided.

The remaining three members of the gang managed to escape by running into nearby streets. Their escape caused brief tension along Moi Avenue as people reacted to the sound of gunfire.

Some members of the public moved into shops and offices for safety, while others stayed away from the area until the situation was brought under control.

Police later secured the scene and began investigations. The photos of the two deceased suspects were released as part of the ongoing inquiry and to assist in identifying the wider gang.

Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the three suspects who escaped. Officers have asked members of the public to share any information that may help with the investigation.

Security patrols along Moi Avenue and other busy parts of the city have since been increased. Police say this is meant to deter similar crimes and reassure the public. They have also advised people to remain alert, especially when handling large amounts of cash, and to report any suspicious activity.

The victim later recorded a statement with the police, explaining how the robbery happened and what he observed. Investigations into the incident are continuing as officers work to establish the full details surrounding the robbery and the events that followed.
