Police officers from Laare Police Station in Meru have finally cornered another batch of six individuals, linked to the recent gang-rape incident that left residents’ hearts bent. Through a statement by the National Police Service on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, the service confirmed the new arrests and described the operation as both painful and necessary.

Fresh arrests after brutal attack

The fresh arrests after brutal attack come two days after the shocking incident in Laare Town, where a young woman was attacked during a traditional circumcision procession. According to the police, the first alert came from frightened residents who stumbled upon the victim fighting for her life.

“On that day, a distress call was received from members of the public, revealing a young woman in grave danger, being gang raped by a group of men participating in a traditional circumcision procession,” the NPS statement read in parts. Officers rushed to the scene, finding the victim in what they described as overwhelming despair. Her clothing was torn. Her energy drained. And the moment, police noted, was one that froze even hardened officers. They quickly moved her to Nyambene Hospital, where medics began treatment. The NPS said the officers made a decision that the perpetrators would not be allowed to scatter back into the community.

Manhunt spreads across villages

The manhunt spreads across villages was the second phase of the operation, and the NPS said it required special coordination.

“Determined to bring the perpetrators to justice, law enforcement officers launched an extensive manhunt,” the statement added. Police used forensic leads to follow the suspects’ tracks, eventually organising targeted raids in Irinde, Lubwa, and Kiarama. During those operations, the six were smoked out of their hideouts and arrested. The NPS noted that these six join three arrested earlier on December 1, all now in custody. Detectives say this case is far from over. They believe more individuals were involved in the violent attack, and the search to identify the remaining suspects is already underway. Police insist no one linked to the crime will be allowed to slip through the cracks as they push for full justice for the survivor.
