Nyeri County senator hopeful Nick Mararo launches cash competitions to empower youth creativity

Aspiring Nyeri County Senator Nick Mararo has stepped into the spotlight with a bold youth-focused initiative that blends creativity, digital culture and civic awareness across the county.

In a message shared on his Facebook page, Mararo unveiled two parallel competitions, the Dance Challenge and the Beat Challenge, both set to run on TikTok and Facebook until Wednesday, April 30, 2026. The contests are open strictly to Nyeri County residents, with participants required to hold a valid voter’s card.

Sparking youth energy

At the heart of the campaign is a clear intention to tap into the energy and talent of young people. The Dance Challenge will reward the most engaging performances, with top prizes set to attract wide participation.

Winning boys’ and girls’ groups will each walk away with Ksh50,000, while the best male and female individual performers will pocket Ksh20,000 each. Alongside this, the Beat Challenge is expected to draw in producers and creatives keen to showcase their sound and originality.

Mararo also hinted at expanding the initiative further by introducing a Kikuyu version, calling on artists and producers to collaborate and shape content that reflects the local identity.

Beyond competition

While the prizes are appealing, Mararo’s message leans more towards purpose than reward. He framed the initiative as a platform where talent can be seen, heard and nurtured, while at the same time encouraging civic participation among the youth.

“A new opportunity for creativity is here. We are creating spaces where talent meets opportunity and creativity speaks for itself,” he said.

He urged young people to take advantage of the moment, share their creativity and become part of a growing movement under the Tuko Kadi banner. “Nyeri talent, this is your moment. We’ve set the ball rolling. Let creativity lead the conversation,” he added.

As entries begin to trickle in online, the competitions are already shaping up to be more than just a digital trend. For many young creatives in Nyeri, they offer a rare chance to be recognised, rewarded and included in conversations that stretch beyond entertainment.
