Naomi Kuria reveals how bhang cost her a KSh 600,000 influencing deal

The life of a content creator often looks exciting from the outside, but behind the scenes it requires discipline, focus, and responsibility. Kenyan influencer Naomi Kuria recently opened up about a difficult chapter in her life that showed her how easily things can fall apart when bad habits take control.

During a candid conversation with media personality Oga Obinna, Naomi shared how her use of bhang affected her work, her mindset, and eventually cost her a major brand deal worth KSh 600,000.

Naomi explained that at the time, her influencing career was doing well. Brands trusted her to represent them, and she was confident in her creativity. One company had signed her for a promotional deal and had already paid part of the agreed amount.

Her task was to create and deliver a promotional video that matched the brand’s expectations. However, when she submitted the content, the brand was not satisfied and asked her to redo the video.

This is where things started to go wrong. Naomi admitted that instead of taking the feedback seriously and working on the revised content, she kept delaying. She said bhang had slowly taken control of her daily routine. The drug made her feel lazy and unmotivated, and she struggled to find the energy to work. Most of her time was spent resting on the sofa, watching time pass, and telling herself she would work the next day.

As the days went by, the pressure from the unfinished work increased. Naomi knew the brand was waiting, but she still failed to deliver the new video on time. She shared that her lack of focus and discipline was directly linked to her drug use. What seemed like a harmless habit had quietly affected her productivity and reliability.

Quitting bhang was not an easy journey for her. Naomi described the process as mentally and emotionally challenging. Even when she understood that the drug was hurting her career, stopping required deep self-reflection and strong willpower. There were moments when she felt disappointed in herself and trapped in a cycle she could not easily break. Still, she pushed through because she wanted to regain control of her life.

Eventually, the brand decided to cancel the deal. Naomi lost the KSh 600,000 opportunity, a loss she says still hurts when she thinks about it. The experience became a turning point for her. It forced her to rethink her lifestyle, habits, and priorities.

She realized that talent alone is not enough and that success also depends on consistency, discipline, and a clear mind.

Naomi hopes to help others avoid making the same mistakes. She wants young people, especially creatives, to understand that influencing is real work that comes with responsibility.

Naomi now encourages others to take care of their mental health, stay focused, and seek help when they feel stuck.
