Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has sounded a fresh warning ahead of Monday’s nationwide police recruitment, declaring that anyone attempting to bribe their way into the service will face immediate arrest and prosecution.

Speaking on Sunday, November 16, 2025, during a church service at St. Luke Methodist Church in Kariene, Imenti Central, Murkomen urged officers overseeing the exercise to maintain integrity and ensure only qualified candidates are selected.

He noted that the government has tightened transparency measures to prevent corruption that has long plagued the exercise.

Murkomen stressed that individuals arriving at recruitment centres with money to influence the process would be caught.

He called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour, saying communities play a crucial role in protecting the credibility of the exercise.

The CS revealed that additional intelligence officers have been deployed across the country to monitor the recruitment, which aims to enlist 10,000 new police officers.

He acknowledged the strain caused by a four-year recruitment freeze, noting that many police stations are understaffed and in urgent need of reinforcement.

Murkomen also warned corrupt officers not to exploit desperate job seekers, insisting that the ministry would take firm action against internal misconduct.

Beyond recruitment issues, the CS issued a harsh warning to bandits in possession of illegal firearms, demanding immediate surrender.

He stated that illegal guns continue to fuel cattle rustling in pastoral areas, threatening regional stability.

He disclosed that a specially trained security unit has already been deployed to dismantle bandit networks and recover weapons.

More personnel will be stationed in high-risk regions, equipped with modern vehicles and protective gear to curb rising insecurity.

Murkomen concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring security nationwide and ensuring the recruitment process remains fair, transparent, and corruption-free.
