MP Anthony Kibagendi released on bail after alleged Java House attack

Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi is facing criminal charges after being arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives on Tuesday.

He has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and malicious damage to property.

Kibagendi appeared at Narok Law Courts before Senior Resident Magistrate Esther Mwikali, where he pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

The court granted him bail set at Sh100,000 cash or a Sh200,000 bond. Magistrate Mwikali stated there were no strong reasons to deny him bail.

According to court documents, Kibagendi allegedly assaulted Enock Moriasi on November 27, 2025, at a Java House in Kisii town, resulting in bodily harm.

He is also accused of damaging an iPhone Pro Max valued at Sh230,000 and restaurant property, including a chair, four plates, and a cup worth Sh20,000.

Kibagendi was initially arrested in Nairobi and held at Keroka Police Station before being transferred to Narok for court proceedings.

His arrest has sparked reactions from residents, with some raising concerns about possible political targeting, especially given his position as a sitting MP.

The case is set to be mentioned again for trial preparations, and investigations into the matter are ongoing. The outcome will depend on evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defense.

Meanwhile, the MP remains out on bail as the legal process continues.
