Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna has urged Kenyans to be careful with how President William Ruto is handling the death of ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga.

Through his X handle, Miguna said that Kenyans must remain vigilant and not allow Ruto to exploit the tragedy for political gain.

“No matter what, Kenyans must guard against allowing tyrant William Ruto from turning Raila Odinga’s death into a well to draw sympathy he doesn’t deserve,” Miguna wrote. “And let us refrain from desperately trying to propel nythindo mane onyuol e pap [Latin] as anything but wind.”

Miguna, known for his fiery political commentary, warned that the aftermath of Raila’s death could easily be manipulated by those seeking to consolidate power.

He urged citizens to honour Raila’s legacy by demanding justice, accountability and democracy rather than succumbing to political theatrics.

On the same note, political analyst Macharia Gaitho echoed Miguna’s sentiments, emphasising the deep political vacuum Raila’s passing leaves behind.

“Without Raila, Ruto cannot even think of winning the elections,” Gaitho said. “Raila was the one holding this government in place, both as an opposition figure and as a unifying national voice.”

The death of Raila Odinga, a man who shaped Kenyan politics for more than four decades, has sparked mixed reactions across the country.

While tributes continue to pour in, analysts caution that the mourning period may quickly turn into a political battlefield.

Miguna’s comments serve as a reminder that Kenya stands at a critical moment between mourning a national icon and resisting any attempts to rewrite his legacy for political convenience.
