Koome Pushes for Integrity as Judiciary battles corruption

Chief Justice Martha Koome recently spoke out strongly against the growing problem of corruption in Kenya’s courts. She made it clear that the court is not a place where people can bring donations, tithes, or offerings to get what they want.

Instead, she described the court as a sacred space meant for fairness and following the rule of law. Her words carry weight because many people have been worried about how some individuals try to influence court decisions by offering bribes or using other dishonest methods.Koome’s message was firm, justice is not something that can be bought or sold. She stressed that the only way to get justice is by going through the proper legal process.

This means everyone, no matter how rich or powerful they are, must follow the same rules. She warned both court officials and the public against treating the court like a marketplace where deals are made.

Her goal is to make sure that justice is available to everyone, whether they have money or not.The Chief Justice also called on Kenyans to trust the legal system and to speak up if they see anything wrong.

She encouraged people to report any cases of corruption or unethical behavior they come across. This is important because trust in the courts depends on everyone working together to keep the system clean.

Koome promised that the Judiciary is fully committed to being honest, open, and fair. She also mentioned that changes are being made to improve how the courts work, so justice can be delivered quickly and without any compromise.

This is not the first time concerns have been raised about corruption in Kenya’s judicial system, but Koome’s strong words show that she is serious about tackling the issue.

By speaking out, she is sending a message to both court officials and the public that unethical behavior will not be tolerated. Her focus on fairness and equality under the law is a reminder that the courts are there to serve everyone, not just a few who can afford to pay for special treatment.

As Kenya continues to grow and develop, having a trustworthy judicial system is crucial. Koome’s call for integrity and transparency is a step toward building a system that people can rely on.

By encouraging the public to report corruption and promising ongoing reforms, she is showing that the Judiciary is ready to do its part in making sure justice is truly fair for all.

Her leadership in this area gives hope that the courts can become a place where the rule of law is respected above all else.
