A Kenyan nurse working in the United States is facing serious legal trouble after authorities arrested him over allegations that he sexually assaulted a patient who was under his care at a hospital in Florida.
The nurse, identified as Abedinecho Kyalo Katue, is 46 years old and originally comes from Kenya’s Kamba community. He had been living and working in the United States where he was employed as a nurse before his arrest.
Police officers in Orlando arrested Katue after spotting his white Range Rover along Orange Blossom Trail. During a routine check, officers discovered that there was an active warrant for his arrest. Authorities said the warrant had been issued months earlier and that he had reportedly been wanted since last summer.
The accusations are connected to an alleged incident that happened at AdventHealth where Katue was working at the time.
According to investigators, the alleged victim was a female patient who had recently undergone an amputation procedure and was recovering in the hospital. Because of her condition, she was confined to her hospital bed and relied on medical staff for assistance.
Authorities say Katue entered the patient’s room while he was responsible for providing care. The patient later told investigators that he began making comments about her appearance during the interaction.
According to the report, Katue allegedly told the patient that he could not remember the last time he had taken care of “such a young, Black, beautiful girl.”
The patient said the remarks made her uncomfortable and that he continued speaking to her even after she did not respond positively.
Investigators say Katue repeatedly suggested that the patient should visit Kenya. Despite the patient showing little interest in the conversation, the interaction continued.
Authorities further allege that the situation escalated when he touched the patient inappropriately. Feeling uneasy and worried about what was happening, the patient reportedly used her phone to secretly record part of the interaction.
The incident was later reported to authorities, which triggered an investigation. After reviewing the information, investigators issued a warrant for Katue’s arrest.
Earlier this week, officers finally located him in Orlando and placed him under arrest. He is currently being held as the case proceeds through the legal system.
Before the arrest, Katue had built a noticeable online presence. On Facebook he had more than 176,000 followers, and he had also attracted tens of thousands of followers on TikTok.
Through his social media pages, often portrayed himself as a successful professional and someone involved in charitable activities. His online influence reached many people in Kenya, especially within the Kamba music community where several artists interacted with him.
However, the public image he had built online has now been overshadowed by the serious allegations he is facing as the case continues in court.
