The acting Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Airports Authority, Dr Mohamud M Gedi, is facing serious allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

Reports shared by blogger Cyprian Nyakundi have claimed that Dr Gedi has been linked to irregular awarding of multi million shilling contracts at the authority.

According to Nyakundi, whistleblowers and staff inside KAA have revealed that several tenders were given to politically connected people without following the right procedures. Some of the contracts were said to have been given to a governor from the North Eastern region.

Nyakundi wrote that the acting boss has tight control over KAA operations and that no one questions his decisions.

One senior staff member who spoke anonymously said Dr Gedi behaves as if he is above everyone else and that this is the reason Wilson Airport is in poor condition.

The latest reports also say that Dr Gedi may have secured his current position through a 70 million shilling deal. He was also allegedly denied a United States visa recently, raising more questions about his conduct and integrity.

One of the biggest concerns is a 243 million shilling legal contract that was reportedly given to a newly registered law firm through direct procurement.

The contract was meant to handle petitions linked to the cancelled Adani Group lease at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Documents show that the original budget for legal services was only 12.5 million shillings.

This means the final amount paid was more than 18 times higher than planned.

Reports also show that Dr Gedi requested approval from the Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Teresia Mbaika, after the money had already been spent. This move has raised questions about accountability and transparency.

Investigations also point to irregular spending at Moi International Airport in Mombasa, where tenders were reportedly given under fake emergencies.

Civil society groups have called for a full audit of KAA finances and asked the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to take action.

A whistleblower who previously exposed the Adani deal said that this is another example of impunity and corruption at the top level of the agency.

Kenyans online are now demanding that all those involved be suspended and investigated as the pressure on Dr Gedi continues to grow.
