Jeremiah Kioni demands probe over alleged body dumping near Mount Longonot

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has raised alarm over disturbing claims that bodies were recently dumped around Mount Longonot in Nakuru County.

Kioni said reports circulating suggested that a lorry carrying the bodies allegedly got stuck in the area a week ago, sparking suspicion among locals.

He urged authorities to take the matter seriously and launch thorough investigations to establish the truth.

According to Kioni, such claims cannot be ignored, especially in a country where past cases of enforced disappearances and mysterious killings have left many families in pain. He stressed that Kenyans deserve answers whenever such incidents are reported.

“We cannot keep quiet when people are saying bodies are being dumped in places like Longonot. The government has the responsibility to investigate and tell Kenyans the truth,” he said.

Residents living near the mountain said strange activities were noticed in the past week, with some claiming that a heavy truck was stuck along a rough road late at night.

Others alleged that security officers were later seen in the same area, although these reports remain unverified.

Human rights groups have also weighed in, calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to urgently move in and conduct forensic checks.

They noted that silence from authorities only fuels more fear and speculation.

Mount Longonot, a dormant volcano within the Great Rift Valley, is a popular hiking and tourist destination. However, the new claims have cast a shadow on the region, with residents and visitors expressing concern over safety and security.

Kioni urged the government to protect whistleblowers and ensure those with information about the alleged dumping are not intimidated. He added that transparency is the only way to restore public confidence.

“Families who suspect that their loved ones could be among those missing deserve justice. The government must act, not cover up,” Kioni insisted.

By press time, security agencies had not issued an official statement regarding the matter. However, pressure is mounting on relevant bodies to address the claims and reassure the public.

If confirmed, the incident would raise fresh questions about the handling of missing persons cases in Kenya, an issue that has long troubled both citizens and human rights defenders.
