Ian Mwangi writes open letter to Sen Omtatah, demands pay cuts for top govt officials

Ian Mwangi, a well-known social media activist, has written an emotional open letter to Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, asking him to push for a motion in Parliament to reduce the salaries and allowances of overpaid government officials.

In the letter shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ian speaks from the heart, saying he’s tired of watching government workers increase their pay while ordinary Kenyans continue to suffer.

“Businesses are closing down, people are losing jobs, crime is going up, and life has become very hard. Yet, some government officials are still adding more money to their already big salaries,” Ian wrote.

He goes on to say that many Kenyans feel abandoned and are losing hope. He warns that if nothing changes, things could get worse. “We have been pushed too far. Help us bring back sanity to this country,” Ian tells Senator Omtatah.

Ian praises Omtatah’s long history of fighting for the people and asks him to use his position in the Senate to speak up for struggling Kenyans. If he can’t table the motion himself, Ian urges him to get another MP to do it.

He also questions why leaders are not feeling the pain that the rest of the country is going through. “Is it greed or do they just not care?” he asks.

Ian ends the letter by saying he is speaking not just for himself, but for millions of Kenyans who are alive — and even those who have died without seeing any change.

So far, Senator Omtatah has not responded, but the letter is already causing a stir online. Many Kenyans are supporting Ian’s call and asking leaders to stop living large while the country struggles. The ball is now in Parliament’s court.
