From poems to partnership: The love story behind Riggy G’s unshakable support system

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, popularly known as Riggy G, once again became the center of conversation after an unexpectedly tender interview on Obinna TV. Known for his steely resolve and no-nonsense demeanor, Gachagua surprised viewers by revealing a deeply personal side of himself, one shaped by love, poetry, and the unwavering presence of his wife, Pastor Dorcas.

In a narrative that felt more like a romance film than a political backstory, Gachagua took viewers down memory lane, recounting how he met Dorcas during their university years. At the time, Dorcas was a first-year student at Kenyatta University, while Gachagua was a bold third-year leader at the University of Nairobi. On a mission to mobilize students from Nyeri to meet then-President Daniel arap Moi, Riggy G’s path crossed with Dorcas a moment he now calls fate.

“She requested to join our delegation,” he recalled, “and I thank God I was there. Had I not been a student leader that day, I would have missed the best thing in my life.”With a candid blend of humor and passion, Gachagua revealed how struck he was by Dorcas’s beauty and how determined he became to win her over. “Maybe if I didn’t meet her that day, some other useless character would’ve taken her… and that would’ve been a total waste,” he quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.

From Campus Crush to Lifelong Companion

Their connection grew from that serendipitous meeting into a steadfast bond. Today, over 35 years later, the couple shares a life anchored by faith, two sons, and mutual respect. Gachagua spoke glowingly of Dorcas, calling her not just a wife but his adviser, best friend, and emotional anchor.

“Even when I lost power, when I wasn’t the Deputy President anymore, she stood by me,” he said. “She wasn’t there for the title or the money. She was there for my for love, for companionship.”

The Poet You Didn’t See Coming

In one of the most surprising moments of the interview, Gachagua confessed that he used poetry to woo Dorcas back in the day, something few would expect from the typically stoic leader. When asked about his romantic side, he joked, “Only my wife can answer that,” before revealing he used to write heartfelt poems during their courtship. And he’s not entirely retired from the craft. “now that I have time,” he mused with a smile, “I might just go back to writing poems for her.”

In a world that often sees leaders as stone-faced and serious, hearing a no-nonsense man like Riggy G speak so vulnerable about love was refreshing. It reminded many that behind the bravado, even the toughest men have a soft spot, and sometimes, it’s written in verse, maybe a rhym

As for the poetic side of Riggy G? Let’s just say we’re all waiting for him to drop his next verse not on politics but on love.
