Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has hit out at ODM leader Raila Odinga, accusing him of playing double standards as the Broad-Based Government (BBG) debate continues to heat up.
Speaking during a burial ceremony in Bungoma on Saturday, April 26, 2025, Wamalwa said Raila was pretending to be in opposition while he was already working with President William Ruto’s government.
“Raila has officially joined government through the UDA-ODM pact, but he still wants Kenyans to believe he is in opposition,” Wamalwa said.
The DAP-K party leader added that when Raila signed the agreement at KICC, there was no Ford Kenya or ANC involved — only ODM and UDA.
“This is not a coalition of many parties. It is simply UDA and ODM sharing government,” he stated.
Wamalwa further accused Raila of taking key government positions to his home region of Nyanza. He claimed that ministries like Treasury and Energy, as well as top parliamentary committees, were now under Raila’s allies.
“You have even given jobs to your family members, and still you say you are not in government. The fools in Kenya are finished,” Wamalwa said sharply.
He warned Kenyans not to be fooled, saying that Raila was now a “major shareholder” in the broad-based government. “Everyone in Bungoma knows Raila is inside government. Whether he denies or not, the truth is clear,” he insisted.
The BBG agreement, signed on March 7, 2025, promised to address key national challenges like corruption, inclusivity, and devolution.
Both Ruto and Raila insisted during the signing that it was not about sharing power, but critics like Wamalwa believe otherwise.
As debate around the BBG continues, many are now questioning Raila’s real position in Kenyan politics whether he is still an opposition leader or now part of the government he once fiercely criticized.
This latest attack by Wamalwa has added more fire to an already heated political season, with 2027 elections fast approaching.
