Ex-Man United star faces jail after 160kmh crash

Brandon Williams, the former Manchester United defender once hailed as “brave as a lion” on the pitch, could be swapping luxury for a prison cell after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, according to Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old was caught speeding at 160kmh on the A34 in Cheshire last August and was allegedly filmed with a balloon in his mouth moments before the crash while driving with a young female passenger.

Prosecutors told Chester Crown Court it was “fortunate” nobody was killed or seriously injured.

Williams, who earned £65,000 (RM373, 325) a week at United before being released last year, faces sentencing on May 9, with a potential maximum penalty of two years in jail. His latest offence adds to an already chequered driving history.

Williams has amassed 30 penalty points and served two driving bans — six months in October 2023 and 12 months in May 2024.

Last May, he was fined £1,000 for twice failing to identify a driver.

Williams had been tipped for a bright future at Old Trafford, but his career has stalled since his United exit.

His release last summer left him without a club, and with his sentencing looming, any hopes of a return to professional football may have to be put on hold.

Williams has previously spoken about the challenges of making it from Manchester’s tough Harpurhey estate to United’s first team.

His mother, Lisa Wood, still runs a cafe in Harpurhey Market, where she proudly displays newspaper clippings of his footballing success.
