Coast police Boss Ali Nuno orders shoot-on-sight action against Panga Boys

Coast regional police commander Ali Nuno has ordered officers to use firearms against the Panga Boys gang, which has been responsible for violent robberies targeting residents and businesses. Nuno warned that anyone involved in crime has only two options: stop their criminal activities or leave the entire Coast region. He emphasized that police will not hesitate to use firearms when necessary.

Nuno said decisive action is required against criminals who have attacked and looted people across Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale counties.

He stressed that the weapons carried by these gangs, including pangas and firearms, are dangerous and can cause death. Officers have been given clear instructions to use their firearms to neutralize threats and bring gang members to justice.

The warning comes as concerns grow over violent robberies along the Coast. Several incidents have been recorded on CCTV, showing attackers storming shops, homes, and public areas while wielding pangas and guns. Victims have suffered injuries and trauma, highlighting the urgent need for action against organised crime.

Recently, police in Kwale County arrested four suspected Panga Boys following a violent robbery in Mbuwani Village on January 22, 2026. The suspects allegedly attacked a man with pangas, stole his mobile phone, and inflicted deep cuts to his head and hand. Officers recovered four pangas and six mobile phones believed to have been stolen during the attack.

The National Police Service has assured the public that operations against organised criminal gangs have been intensified to restore safety along the Coast. Nuno’s directive signals a strong stance against violent crime, with the police determined to protect residents and businesses. He warned that criminal activity will not be tolerated and those involved face serious consequences if they continue.

Authorities aim to curb the activities of the Panga Boys and other gangs, making the Coast region safer for everyone. Police presence has been increased, and law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring areas prone to attacks.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to help law enforcement dismantle these criminal networks.

The Coast region now faces a turning point in its fight against violent gangs, with clear warnings that crime will meet decisive action. Officers are prepared to act swiftly, ensuring the public can live and work without fear of attack.
