The death of Umoja gym trainer Alphy Migasha was caused by a blood clot that formed in his lungs after injuries he suffered during a violent assault in Nairobi, an autopsy has confirmed. The clot developed weeks after his leg was fractured in the attack, and it eventually led to his sudden death at home as his health worsened.
Government pathologists established that Migasha was attacked on December 22, 2025, at a liquor joint in Umoja One estate.
During the altercation, he suffered serious injuries, including a broken leg. Although he sought medical help after the incident, his condition did not fully improve. On January 17, 2026, Migasha died at his home, leaving his family shocked and devastated.
According to his relatives, Migasha had been in visible pain in the days leading up to his death. They said that shortly before he passed away, he vomited blood, which alarmed them. Family members explained that after the assault, Migasha had gone to hospital for treatment and was placed on medication. They also reported the incident to the police, hoping that the suspect would be arrested and held responsible.
The postmortem examination was carried out at the City Mortuary by Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor. The examination revealed that Migasha died from a pulmonary embolism, which is a blood clot that blocks blood flow to the lungs. Dr Oduor explained how the injury led to his death, saying, “The blood clot travelled to the lung, causing death. We believe it emanated from a leg injury he had.”
The family said that Migasha did not only suffer a leg fracture during the assault. He also sustained fractured ribs and chest injuries, showing that the attack was severe.
They believe these injuries weakened his body and contributed to the complications that later caused his death. The family is now demanding justice and wants police to move quickly and arrest the suspect linked to the assault.
CCTV footage from December 22 has played a key role in understanding what happened. The video shows Migasha sitting outside a liquor outlet in Umoja One estate shortly before the attack.
A man is seen approaching him, confronting him, and then violently assaulting him.
Despite attempts by witnesses to stop the attack, the man continued beating Migasha before walking away and leaving him injured on the ground. The reason for the assault is still not known.
After learning about the attack, Migasha’s family rushed him to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital. Doctors confirmed that he had a broken leg and other serious injuries. As he received treatment, the family reported the matter to Buruburu Police Station.
Police officers at Buruburu Police Station have said that efforts are ongoing to trace the suspect. Buruburu Directorate of Criminal Investigations head Simon Kirui assured the family that detectives are actively working on the case and that appropriate action will be taken as investigations continue.
