Kenyans have once again been left speculating if the late Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve was assassinated after the government’s postmortem report gave a different cause of death from what was earlier claimed.
Government Chief Pathologist Johansen Oduor confirmed that Munuve died due to a blood clot and lack of oxygen, a revelation that has surprised many. Earlier reports had suggested he died from heart failure, making some wonder if there was more to the story.
Speaking after the postmortem, Dr. Oduor explained that a clot blocked Munuve’s blood vessels, cutting off oxygen supply to vital organs. “The cause of death was a blood clot and lack of oxygen,” he said.
Munuve collapsed on Tuesday, April 22, while working at his Kariobangi North office. He was rushed to a private hospital along Kiambu Road but sadly passed away while undergoing treatment.
His death came just days after he made headlines for announcing plans to collect signatures to impeach Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, accusing him of poor leadership and corruption. This bold political move had put Munuve at the center of heated political battles in the city.
Family sources said Munuve had complained of chest pains in the days leading to his death but had assumed it was just work stress.
Seven pathologists, both from government and private hospitals, were involved in the postmortem to ensure the results were transparent and credible.
Despite the official findings, many Kenyans are still asking questions. They wonder why there was a sudden shift from heart failure to blood clot and whether the MCA’s death was truly natural.
Leaders across the political divide have sent in their tributes, describing Munuve as a fearless, hardworking leader who cared deeply for his people.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is still carrying out investigations to rule out any foul play. Munuve’s family is expected to announce funeral arrangements soon.
