City tycoon and 2027 Nairobi governor hopeful Agnes Kagure on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, lashed out at the Nairobi County Government under Governor Johnson Sakaja’s leadership over what she termed as endless salary delays for workers.

Through her Facebook page, the renowned philanthropist and businesswoman said the persistent crisis had exposed thousands of families to untold suffering while the county allegedly wasted billions on luxuries and questionable bills.

“Our workers are not a footnote; they are the engine that runs every day to drive Nairobi’s progress. Any good manager would know that,” Kagure stated.

The city business mogul argued that while county employees go for weeks and sometimes months without pay, Nairobi City Hall continued to hemorrhage funds through corruption and misplaced priorities.

“To see families go for weeks and months without pay while the county loses billions in luxuries and ambiguous bills is the height of incompetence and impunity. I will champion a leadership that puts our workforce before luxuries, ring-fence funds for essential services, and seal corruption loopholes,” Kagure added.

Her remarks come at a time when sections of Nairobi County staff have been protesting over delayed salaries, with some threatening to down their tools if the matter is not urgently addressed.

The outspoken businesswoman, who has positioned herself as a champion for fairness and accountability, further emphasized that true integrity in leadership must begin with honoring commitments to workers and residents alike.

“Integrity means honoring commitments; to our workers and to all residents,” she said.

Kagure’s statement has been widely interpreted as both a direct attack on Sakaja’s administration and a clear declaration of her priorities ahead of the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial race.

Her message struck a chord with ordinary Nairobians, many of whom took to social media to echo her frustrations, while political observers noted that the remarks also doubled as a carefully crafted PR pitch to the city’s elite power brokers.
